From Nafplio: Ancient Corinth, Canal and Mycenae private tour

One hour drive away from Nafplio, in the area of Peloponnese you will be able to find the famous Corinth Canal. The Corinth Canal is a canal that connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland, thus effectively making the former peninsula an island. 
The canal elevated Piraeus’ status as a major Mediterranean port . A project that spanned many centuries, it was conceived by a ruler of Ancient Corinth, begun by Roman emperor Nero, and completed in the 19th century by the French. Cut through solid rock, the canal is more than 6km long and 23m wide, its vertical sides rising 90m above the water.

After a brief Stop at the Canal we will continue towards Ancient Coritnh, home of the legendary Jason, who stole the golden Fleece. You can visit here the Temple of Apollo, the Peribolos of Apollo, the ancient theater and other site highlights.

- We stop at the Ancient Corinth for 1 hour 

Then we head to Mycenae, one of the most important cities of ancient Greece. You will see the Mycenaean Acropolis, the tomb of Agamemnon and the ruins of the Cyclopean walls that protected this mighty city. 

In the second millennium BC, Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization, a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece, Crete, the Cyclades and parts of southwest Anatolia. The period of Greek history from about 1600 BC to about 1100 BC is called Mycenaean in reference to Mycenae. 

According to Homer, the city of Mycenae was founded by Perseus, the son of Danae and Zeus. By Agamemnon’s time the Royal House of Atreus was the most powerful of the Achaeans (Homer’s name for the Greeks). 

- We stop at Mycenae for 90 min. 

- After Mycenae or before you have the option to stop at a nearby village or town for snacks or a quick lunch.
